Important Announcement:
2020-2021 National Honor Society (NHS) Information
"Due to the restrictions placed on New Jersey from the current world wide pandemic, the NHS committee is in the process of amending the NHS application for the 2020-2021 school year. Eligible juniors and seniors, with a Cumulative Weighted GPA of a 3.6 or higher, should check their emails throughout August as they will be receiving an invitation to apply, as well as the Google Classroom Code to obtain the application documents from the NHS advisors, Mrs. Liguori and Mrs. Verderami.
Membership in this prestigious national organization is based on demonstration of outstanding levels of scholarship, leadership, character and service. Students who are eligible will be invited to apply for membership in the fall of their junior or senior years.
The initial eligibility requirement is a weighted GPA of 3.6 or higher and qualified
students will be notified of their eligibility and invited to submit an
application. These candidates then go through an extensive review
process. Performance in the areas of service, character and leadership is
evaluated by a faculty selection committee. In addition, a thorough
review of discipline records and faculty feedback is conducted. Each
candidate's performance in all four areas must be judged to be outstanding.
Once
inducted, members must maintain their academic performance, continue to
provide leadership, demonstrate excellent character, and provide
service hours toward the school and community in approved NHS
activities. Failure to meet these expectations will result in a review
of the student's membership and possible dismissal from the program.
A
Mandatory meeting is held for all candidates to review the application
process and answer all questions in mid October. During that time the
advisors will examine and clarify what community involvement qualifies
in the categories of community (volunteer) service and leadership.
The minimum recommended service hours for a junior invited to apply is 80 (at a not-for profit organization)
The minimum recommended service hours for a senior invited to apply is 120 (at a not-for profit organization)
Meetings dates will be detailed in a September mailing.
