Science Honor Society
Science Honor Society recognizes students that have
demonstrated excellence and achievement in science. All members must be
enrolled in at least one honors or upper level science class during the
eleventh and twelfth grade year. Membership for a student in the
Science Honor Society is conferred in the last two years at SBHS. A
student must have and maintain a 3.90 weighted grade point average to be
a member. In addition, member must maintain a 3.90 average across all
science courses. Students must have completed or be currently enrolled
in a Biology, Chemistry and Physics course. In addition, candidates
must lecture to a group about a science topic and be a member of a
science related club (NOT including Computer Science), perform science tutoring, do science related
community service or another pre-approved science activity.
The
objectives of Science Honor Society are as follows: encourages and
recognizes scientific and intellectual thought, advances the student's
knowledge of classical and modern science, communicates with the
scientific community, aids the civic community with its comprehension of
science, encourages students to participate in community service and in
turn, encourages a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge
that benefits all humankind.
All candidates must be in good standing. Character for membership in these societies adheres to the same policy as the National Honor Society as outlined in the student handbook.
